Island adventures

We have started our 2022 paddle with everything going for us. Maggie’s sister Christy Smith and sister-in-law Kim McDowell delivered Maggie to Seilinsgrove Pennsylvania where Karen arrived within five minutes. we were on the river by 2 PM under beautiful skies and overcome ladders with only nature to keep us company. This part of the river is replete with islands, some of which have public primitive campsites on them. We hope to find one each night!

Again the skies are blue this morning and the Winds calm. Harrisburg is only 30 miles away and we realized we may finish this trip sooner than expected. Or we will take more time exploring historical or other interesting places along the way. This is some thing we never feel we have time to do and we’re in a very historical part of the country so maybe this will be the year.

This year is also a first for some challenging new opportunities. We have decided to join the radical Carry in carry out Philosophy which we have done to the extreme with the exception of our own human waste. So this year we have come up with a creative way to handle that. Without going into more detail, we will leave no trace of ourselves behind.

It is truly an amazing thing to disengage from the the world and let The river carries along edits own pace. It is amazing to wake up to the loud chatter of the birds. It is amazing to smell the earth. It’s amazing to be together again after a year.

And it is amazing to be able to give thanks for something as simple as a picnic table which makes our loading and unloading and eating so much easier. Thank you to the Susquehanna river trail association.

Please forgive any errors on this page I’m narrating from a phone and will fix it later.
