So, rain and wind and cold have never stopped us but heat has stopped us midday for an indefinite period. We paddled against the wind to get through our last lock of the week and found a bit of shade and have rested. We are considering a swim in the river. Here is a photo of our shade.
At this very moment we are sitting in this beautiful spot having lunch hoping that the wind will subside and it won’t take us 10 hours to get to the lock two miles away. We always seem to be lucky to find such places for respite. The paddling is hard again against strong headwinds.
This afternoon we pushed ourselves an extra few miles to get to GAllipolis boat club. Showers and toilets! Long day on the river but we are safe and sound and warm and about to have dinner.
Three women greeted us enthusiastically at this gift shop, Weaving Stitches,
. One of them, Eloise, was the woman who took us to McDonald’s.
Not every view on the Ohio is as pretty as most of what we have seen. This picture gives you a feeling for that.
Having left our campsite in Syracuse Ohio at 7 o’clock this morning we paddled for a few miles and found civilization in Pomeroy, Ohio. Even McDonald’s looks good when you’re hungry and need a bathroom. Karen adds but only if it’s breakfast.
We paddled about 25 miles today. We had strong head winds for about 5 miles that exhausted us. Now we are in Syracuse Ohio and Karen has gone off with a woman to get ice. Next we will find a campground. The river is finally very quiet and glasslike and it’s a beautiful evening. we can’t seem to upload any photos from where we are so you’ll have to wait for those.
We had some fun today making a sale from a tarp and it actually moved us along pretty quickly. You’ll have to wait till I can upload videos to the blog to see it.
We had a beautiful campsite last night. We woke up to mist on the river. We managed to get ourselves started early enough that we were still in the Mist when we started. We have paddled about 8 miles already this morning.
